Perception of pain

Pain is part of our daily life. Never can we experience happiness and joy without experiencing pain. Last Sunday when I attended the Eucharistic Mass in Makati, the homily of the priest really inspired me a lot. It was all about experiencing pain. According to him, Scientist have ranked living things according to their perception of pain…the more one can experience pain the higher his existence and superiority is. The plants which feel little pain is considered to be the lowest form of living things. Just like in the case of an Earthworm, since the worms feel less pain, they are considered to be lower forms of living things. The dog for example, experience and feel pain greater than the worms so the dogs are consider to be in higher form of living things. We, human beings, experienced pain in the highest degree so that is why we are considered to be superior among other creatures. We belong in the highest form of living things not only because of feeling intense pain but because as human beings, we are also able to experienced the pain of others. Whenever we see our love ones suffer and experiences pain, we feel intense pain as if we are the ones suffering. God enables us to experience this kind of feeling in order for us to love and care for our neighbours. He allows these things to make us stronger and to realize that pain is just part of our life. He won’t give us sufferings and pain if He knows that we can’t endure and overcome it. So, if ever you feel intense pain right now, I tell you not to give up instead fight to overcome it. Remember that there is always a rainbow beneath the horizon.
